Diploma in Emergency Health Services Management (DEHSM)

The School of Health Administration offers an undergraduate diploma program in Emergency Health Services Management.  The program is designed for individuals working in small or large emergency health services organizations, desiring academic foundation in essential healthcare management skills. The program meets the need for an educational program for students interested in emergency health services management and for mid-career managers working in Emergency Health Services systems in Canada.  The academic objectives of the program are to provide education in emergency health services management for future managers of large and small emergency health services organizations, and to provide access to further education in Health Administration and Emergency Health Services for such individuals.

The program is designed by EHS professionals drawing on the experience of EHS practitioners, educators, managers and consultants across Canada and in the United States.  This program is geared towards developing essential management skills to work in this field.

The Diploma in Emergency Health Services Management program provides students and emergency health services professionals with the skills required to:

  • Manage organizations and human resources effectively
  • Implement continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Design efficient and effective EHS systems
  • Apply principles of health care planning to EHS
  • Develop community partnerships and support for EHS
  • Navigate the complexity of the legal environment as it applies to health care services such as EHS

Students may complete the DEHSM program using on-line technology on a full time or part time basis. The program is conducted through the Internet and web-based conferencing with a product called the Blackboard Learning System (BLS).  The BLS provides a learning environment where students direct their learning.  BLS consists of a suite of tools, which provide mechanisms for interactive exercises, such as group discussions, presentations, and information sharing.

All students must observe the University Academic Regulations.
